Medical Student Demonstrates How Coronavirus Cross-Contamination Can Occur While Wearing Face Mask

A medical student in Davao City, Philippines, demonstrated how even people who take numerous precautions to prevent the spread of the coronavirus can still be subject to cross-contamination.

Footage recorded on December 2 shows medical student Angad Rai using paint to explain how people can become infected despite wearing a mask and a face shield.

Playing out a possible scenario, Rai fails to remove his mask correctly, pulling it down beneath his chin, then placing it back over his mouth. The student then shows viewers paint representing germs that had been placed on his neck smeared on the inside of his mask.

“This is the unprotected area,” he says in the footage, pointing to his neck. “I was not able to prevent the germs coming from my neck, to my face mask and eventually to my face.” Credit: Angad Rai via Storyful
