MCA snub in Kuala Kubu Baru won’t derail Pakatan-BN campaign, says Fahmi
PUTRAJAYA, Apr 25 — MCA’s decision not to support the unity government campaign for the Kuala Kubu Baru by-election will not harm its ability to win, said PKR information chief Fahmi Fadzil.
Fahmi, who is the communications minister, also said the relationship between the Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition was fundamentally strong.
“BN (has said that they) will assist and on the the ground we will focus on the candidate, we have a good candidate.
“Even last night, (Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Seri) Ahmad Maslan has given his thumbs up for the candidate last night,” Fahmi said when met by reporters at the joint-Hari Raya event here by his ministry and the Housing and Local Government Ministry.
After MCA chose not to support the PH candidate, political rivals such as Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor has claimed of a rift among coalitions in the national unity government.
Today, Fahmi said the national unity government parties were wholly behind PH candidate Pang Sock Tao from DAP.
“We will focus on our machinery and working together.
“(MCA’s action) does not disrupt (winning chances),” he said.
MCA previously said it would only campaign for a candidate from BN.
The KKB state assembly seat fell vacant due to the death of its three-term incumbent, Lee Kee Hong, on March 21 from cancer.
The Election Commission has set nomination day on April 27, while polling day will be on May 11.
