TAIPING, Nov 7 — Although it is the second largest town in Perak, Taiping is hardly on anyone’s radar.

But come November 19, this may change as MCA candidate Neow Choo Seong has big plans for it should he win.

The 37-year old ex-diplomat who is from Taiping intends to make use of the abundance of “assets” untapped by former MPs leaving the whole area underdeveloped.

“As a local who was born and grew up here, I see the potential that can be developed and tapped which will benefit the locals economically and social wise,” he said.

Neow said the Lake Gardens, the zoo, Maxwell Hill, the underutilised industrial park and many more were not being looked at as economic assets.

“Tourism in Taiping has enormous potential as the places I mentioned can be attractive destinations not just to Malaysians but overseas travellers and the nearest is China tourists.

“And the downstream business from this will benefit many kampungs and nearby towns.

“The industrial park needs investors and with my network as an ex-diplomat, I can bring in several SME investors where jobs for the locals will be in abundance so youngsters need not migrate to Penang or Kuala Lumpur to work.

“We have the hills but we cannot go up because we have not made it accessible, we have the beautiful lake but lack attractive activities and we have a zoo but lack exotic animals.

“We have an industrial park built some 15 years ago but lack investments,” he said.

“We need to go back to the drawing board and redraw the plan with the assets we have.

“Taiping has all it needs for the people to earn a modest income without going away to other states.

“I am confident the locals will want this development after a long time being left behind when all the assets and heritage are right under our noses,” Neow explained.

Neow is facing DAP, Gerakan and three Independent candidates for the seat.
