MBO Cinemas: "It is still business as usual"

16 Oct - The nation's third largest cinema chain MBO Cinemas is not shutting down its operations for good despite earlier reports.

Jamie Tiong the General Manager of Sales and Marketing at MBO Cinemas has issued the following statement to Cinema Online, "Please be assured that we are not closing down and it business as usual for MBO Cinemas".

Previously, several news outlets had reported that the cinema chain was allegedly shutting down its operations for good, due to the decline in its business during the pandemic.

This was brought on after The Edge Markets on 15 October 2020 reported on a notice on the intention of executing the liquidation process for MCAT Box Office Sdn. Bhd. (MBO Cinemas).

As per MBO Cinemas' recent social media posts, 23 out of their 27 nationwide locations are either "closed until further notice" or "closed due to the CMCO implementation".

The four MBO Cinemas that are currently open are MBO Cinemas Kluang Mall, MBO Cinemas KSL City Mall, MBO Cinemas Kuantan City Mall and MBO Cinemas The Spring Kuching.

Following the recent Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) the following MBO locations in Selangor and KL are closed from 14 to 27 October 2020; MBO Setapak Central, MBO The Starling, MBO Tropicana Gardens Mall, MBO Subang Parade and MBO Atria Shopping Gallery.

MBO Imago Mall in Sabah is temporarily closed from 13 to 26 October 2020 due to the state implemented CMCO.
