“Maxton Hall”'s Damian Hardung Reflects on Show's 'Surreal' Ride as Season 2 Wraps Filming: 'Biggest Privilege'
The actor, who plays bad boy James Beaufort, said that filming season 2 this summer was also "the biggest challenge I've ever had"
Maxton Hall season 2 has officially wrapped filming — and star Damian Hardung can hardly believe how fast the summer flew by.
Hardung, 26, who plays James Beaufort on the hit Prime Video series, confirmed in an Instagram post on Sept. 17 that he had "wrapped the second season" as he reflected on the whirlwind few months he's had since the show's premiere in May.
"Since the first season came out, it all feels a bit surreal at times," he wrote in the caption, referring to the series' incredible debut, as it made history as the most successful international original series on Prime Video.

"Portraying James this summer has been the biggest privilege, but also the biggest challenge I’ve ever had in this often weird job. Thanks to everyone for their support, thanks to you for your kind messages," Hardung continued.
The actor noted that he "can't believe I am not returning to set this week as James," but teased that he's "starting another journey tomorrow," which could be referencing his newly-announced role in a coming-of-age romance film, Into the Deep Blue, alongside Queen Charlotte's India Amarteifio.
On Sept. 16, the German Prime Video Instagram account announced that filming on season 2 of the breakout hit series had wrapped, as it shared a compilation video of the cast introducing themselves on day one of filming and then on their final day on set.
Hardung and Harriet Herbig-Matten, who plays James' love interest Ruby Bell, kicked off the video, which also featured stars Sonja Weißer (Lydia), Ben Felipe (Cyril), Runa Greiner (Ember), Justus Riesner (Alistair), Andrea Guo (Lin), Frederic Balonier (Kieran) and Eli Riccardi (Elaine).
Season 2 of the series will be based on the second book in Mona Kasten's bestselling German trilogy, Save You, and will pick up where season 1 ended, with James and Ruby's relationship up in the air.
"After their passionate night together in Oxford and her greatest life goal within reach, everything seems to be going perfectly for Ruby. But a stroke of fate in James' family changes everything and James himself, of all people, brings her back from cloud nine to a harsh reality," the official synopsis reads.
"Ruby is devastated. She has never had such strong feelings for anyone as she does for James — and she has never been so hurt by anyone either. She wants her old life back, where no one at Maxton Hall knew her and she wasn't part of the elitist world of her classmates," the synopsis continues.
Despite how hurt she is, Ruby "can't forget James — especially since he's doing everything he can to win her back."

Herbig-Matten, 21, and her costar Justus Riesner, 27, teased to InStyle Germany that "the love story continues" in season 2, "but it gets dramatic."
"It's getting more serious," she told the outlet before a Hugo Boss show at Milan Fashion Week on Sept. 18. "But it's also kind of nice because we're focusing [more] on the friendships — the female friendships."
Ruby and James' love story remains at the center, though, and Herbig-Matten said things get "very romantic and passionate."
