Matty Healy Has “Mixed Feelings” and Was “Completely Blindsided” by ‘The Tortured Poets Department’
Nearly two months after Taylor Swift dropped The Tortured Poets Department, a friend of Matty Healy’s revealed The 1975 front man has “mixed feelings” about the album allegedly inspired by their short-lived relationship. The insider dished about Matty’s stance on the album to Us Weekly, saying, “He loves the attention it’s brought to him, [but] he also thinks it’s hilarious because at no time [were they] ever serious.”
Tracks like “The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived,” “Fresh Out the Slammer,” and the title track, “The Tortured Poets Department,” seemingly alluded to Taylor’s romance with Matty, but the anonymous source added that he was “completely blindsided” by the album’s “lyrical content” that refers to marriage and children.
“For her to be saying things about baby carriages…and living together, he says it had never even come up,” the insider revealed. “He’s taking it in stride.” But there’s a chance that most of these tracks may actually reference Taylor’s six-year relationship with Joe Alwyn, from “So Long London” to “The Manuscript.”

When Tortured Poets hit streaming services in April, Entertainment Tonight caught up with Matty about his alleged “dis track.”
“How would you rate your Taylor dis track compared to the 30 others?” the photographer asked before he responded, “I haven’t really listened to that much of it, but I’m sure it’s good.”

Before the insider gave insight into Matty’s album reaction, a different source told Us Weekly that he was “uncomfortable with the renewed attention on his relationship [with Taylor]—especially because he’s [with someone] new.”
