While you may have played with Superman or Wonder Woman figurines as a child, kids these days are set to have some different toy heroes. Toy maker Mattel is honoring healthcare workers and everyday heroes on the frontlines of the coronavirus pandemic with new action figures, launching later this year.
The limited-edition #ThankYouHeroes collection includes 16 action figures, featuring a selection of doctors, nurses, EMTs, and delivery drivers. There's also a special edition Community Champions set that comes with five small toy figures, including a a doctor, a nurse, an emergency medical technician, a delivery driver and a grocery store worker. Both the set and each action figure ring in at $20. The toys won't ship until December 31, but they are currently available for preorder.
And you'll want to get your orders in soon, because the action figures are meant to support the heroes they're modeled after: Through May 31, net proceeds from the #ThankYouHeroes collection will be donated to #FirstRespondersFirst, an initiative that supports first responder healthcare workers who serve on the frontlines of the pandemic. Mattel is also helping the fight against COVID-19 by producing 500,000 face shields for healthcare workers
“#ThankYouHeroes is designed to immortalize and honor healthcare and every day heroes, and to drive additional donations to support first responders,” Fisher-Price Senior Vice President Chuck Scothon said in a press release. “Whether these toys are given as a gift to recognize someone working on the front lines, or used as a tool to help children have conversations about how they are feeling, it is our hope that Fisher-Price toys, and play in general, can ultimately make these difficult times easier for both kids and adults.”
The #ThankYouHeroes action figures are expected to ship around December 31. In the meantime, check out the full collection and get your orders in here.
