The delayed MasterChef final will now take place tomorrow (Wednesday 14 April) at 8pm, it has been confirmed.

The last episode of the 17th series was pushed out of its slot last Friday as the BBC cleared schedules to cover the news of Prince Philip's death.

A tweet from the official MasterChef UK account read: "We can now confirm that the #MasterChefUK Final will air on Wednesday at 8pm on @BBCOne & @BBCiPlayer!"

The final three competitors, Mike Tomkins, Tom Rhodes and Alexina Anatole, all stand a chance of being named the next MasterChef champion by judges Gregg Wallace and John Torode.

The BBC has been criticised for its heavy coverage of the Duke of Edinburgh's passing across its TV and radio outputs.

It wiped the schedules across BBC One and BBC Two to make way for news coverage and special tribute programmes. Meanwhile, BBC Four displayed a banner urging viewers to switch over for a "major news report".

BBC Radio 4 and BBC Radio 5 Live both also aired programmes about the senior royal.

The broadcaster set up a dedicated page for viewers to voice their disapproval of the coverage and have reportedly received more than 100,000 complaints.

A BBC spokesperson said: “We are proud of our coverage and the role we play during moments of national significance.”
