Several cities in the Brazilian State of Sao Paulo were blanketed by clouds of dust on September 26, footage taken by residents in the region showed.

Among the cities affected in the interior of Sao Paulo were Aracatuba, Franca, and Ribeirao Preto, according to local reports. This footage, recorded on Sunday in Barretos, shows the sky turned a reddish shade by the particulate matter in the air, as the wind whistles.

Parts of the interior of Sao Paulo state have been stricken by drought this year, a factor cited by Brazil’s National Institute of Meteorology. Officials said the arid conditions, combined with heavy winds, contributed to Sunday’s severe dust storm. Credit: Reginaldo Spartano via Storyful
