Mass Vaccination Centres Open in Tokyo as Japan Battles COVID-19 Wave Ahead of Olympics

Authorities opened a mass vaccination centre in Tokyo in May to help Japan fight off a wave of COVID-19 infections ahead of the Olympic Games in July.

Japan also opened a centre in Osaka and planned to open more in other parts of the country soon after, according to local news reports. Tokyo was under a state of emergency amid a spike in confirmed cases.

Tokyo is due to host the Olympic Games from July 23. The date had been postponed from its original 2020 date due to the coronavirus pandemic.
