Mass commemorates Costa Concordia disaster

Thirty-two people lost their lives during a chaotic night-time evacuation of some 4,200 passengers and crew as the 114,500- tonne luxury cruise ship capsized and sank.

In Tuscan town of Giglio, Ester Percossi said she was on board the Concordia when the ship hit the rocks, she wanted to pay tribute to those who lost their lives, saying "For us it is a burden, an enormous sense of guilt because they are not here and we are here to see another day."

Kevin Rebello, whose brother Russel died in the incident, received a commemorative plate from the Italian National Civil Protection Agency to honor his brother.

A flotilla of Carabinieri, Coastguard, and Finance Police patrol boats laid a wreath to pay tribute to the victims of the disaster at the exact spot where the cruise liner hit rocks after the ship's captain Francesco Schettino tried to perform a manoeuvre known as a "salute" - an attempt to show passengers the island and islanders the ship.
