'Masjid Is Open': American Basketball Player Happily Runs Toward Mosque as Qatar Eases Restrictions

A Muslim American basketball player couldn’t contain his excitement as mosques reopened in Qatar on June 15 after three months of closure due to the COVID-19 pandemic, local media reported.

Musa Abdul-Aleem shared a video of himself happily running toward a mosque in Al Wakrah, while repeatedly yelling, “The Masjid’s open!”

“I pulled out my phone and thought to record such a historic moment of hearing the Iqama for the first time in three months! That has never happened before,” Abdul-Aleem told Storyful.

In the video, he excitedly asks a security guard, “Is that the Iqama?”- the second call to Islamic prayer. Credit: Musa Abdul-Aleem via Storyful
