British-born designer Martyn Lawrence Bullard has brought his signature mix of bold patterns to an exclusive new collection for The Shade Store. Beyond making your windows more beautiful, Bullard wants you to create windows to the world—for this collection of Roman shades, cornices, and drapes, the globe-trotting designer looked to his travels in Paris and Tangier, Morocco, for inspiration.

“The bold colors, textures, and vitality in these two cities in particular is unmatchable,” the ELLE DECOR A-List designer explained via email. “At a time when travel had been put on pause, I really leaned into my rich, memorable experiences to create a collection that brought the essence and beauty of the world directly into the home.”

This sensibility shines through in the collection, which includes prints ranging from bright florals to graphic stripes in embroidered, textured finishes. The Nomad Stripe, for example, was inspired by patterns carved onto traditional wood shields that Bullard spotted during travels to Morocco.

Bullard calls window treatments the “jewelry” of a room, and the designer has advice for how to style them, too: “You can bring in a bolder pattern or color combination with window treatments, but then go for a softer feel with a neutral sofa to balance it out. They’re a great way to inject your personality into a space, and an easy swap pending your mood or the season.”

As for the pattern the designer will be using in his own home? That would be the elegant, embroidered Nomad Stripe. “I’m going to be using this pattern in my living room,” Bullard says, “and I am so excited to see how the embroidery becomes the star of the room and really pulls the space together.”
