PENANG – Marriott International, Inc. today announced the signing of agreements with Ideal Property Group, to open Penang Marriott Hotel Queens Waterfront and Marriott Residences Queens Waterfront, Penang in the popular Malaysian island. This signing marks the company’s second Marriott Hotel and Marriott Residence on the island, following the recent opening of Penang Marriott Hotel in April, and the anticipated opening of Penang Marriott Executive Apartments later this year.

Present to ink the agreement at an event held today were YAB Tuan Chow Kon Yeow, Chief Minister of Penang; Mr. Andree Susilo, Senior Director, Hotel Development, Asia Pacific excluding China (APEC), Marriott International; Ms. Penny Trinh, Vice President, Mixed-Use Development, Asia Pacific excluding China, Marriott International; Tan Sri Datuk Alex Ooi Kee Liang, Chairman of  Ideal Property Group and Puan Sri Datuk Joanne Phor Li Wei, Executive Director of Ideal Property Group.

Slated to open in 2029, the planned 262-room Penang Marriott Hotel Queens Waterfront and 228-unit Marriott Residences Queens Waterfront, Penang will be part of the Queens Waterfront mixed-use development. Located in the Bayan Lepas district of Penang, just minutes from the Bayan Lepas Industrial Zone, it will be ideally situated in the heart of a bustling industrial and commercial hub with views of the Penang Bridge. This prime location offers convenient access for guests travelling by road to the island from the mainland of Peninsular Malaysia, and it is only a 15-minute drive from Penang International Airport.

Its location also offers excellent proximity to leisure attractions, including Queensbay Mall which is a walking distance. SPICE Arena, Penang’s biggest indoor convention center, Georgetown City Center and the UNESCO World Heritage Site of George Town are also a short drive away.

Plans for the hotel include a restaurant, a café, lobby lounge and a bar, while leisure facilities are expected to include a swimming pool and a fitness center. In addition, the hotel is slated to be an ideal destination for events of all sizes such as weddings, seminars, workshops, and conferences with over 1,360-square meters of event space, comprising of a 1,000-square meter ballroom and three meeting rooms.

These signings add to Marriott International’s robust pipeline in Malaysia – where it currently operates 50 properties in the country. The hotel is anticipated to the company’s seventh Marriott Hotel brand in Malaysia following Penang Marriott Hotel, Putrajaya Marriott Hotel, Kota Kinabalu Marriott Hotel, Perhentian Marriott Resort & Spa, Mulu Marriott Resort and Spa, and Miri Marriott Resort and Spa.
