What did you miss?

Married At First Sight viewers were stunned as JJ Slater and Ella Morgan returned as a new couple.

The pair were initially in different pairings on Channel 4's social experiment, with JJ matched up with Bianca Petronzi and Ella with Nathaniel Valentino.

But that all collapsed amid high drama earlier this month, when the pair admitted they had formed "a connection".

What, how, and why?

The duo made their return during Wednesday's instalment (25 October).

Morgan sent shockwaves through the couple's retreat as she walked in, announcing: "I'm back b******!"

She was followed by Slater, who walked in clutching a drink as his co-stars exclaimed: "Oh my God!"

Morgan told the others that they had been getting to know each other outside of the show and that it had been going "really well".

Relationship expert Mel Schilling then explained: "Allowing two people who have left the experiment to return as a new couple is not something we do lightly.

"There is obviously precedent for this move and we have seen that it can produce relationships that flourish with help from us and the support of the group."

However, many members of the group looked less than impressed to see the pair back on the show.

What did viewers say?

Fans were also miffed, with many posting messages on social media saying it wasn't on that Slater and Morgan were getting another go at the experiment.

Others thought it was unfair on Bianca and Nathaniel, who left the show after their relationships broke down.

"OMG that is so unfair and only for ratings," one person said on X, formerly Twitter.

"Bringing Ella and JJ back is for ratings and drama and goes against the spirit of the 'experiment'," said someone else, adding the hashtag "#NotCool".

"It's Married At First Sight not f****** Wife Swap," posted another fan.

"The experiment didn't work for them so leave and f*** off. It's unfair especially on JJ's wife."
