Maroon 5’s Mickey Madden to take ‘leave of absence’ from band following arrest
Maroon 5 bassist Mickey Madden is to take a leave of absence from the band after being arrested following an alleged partner violence incident.
On 27 June, the “Moves Like Jagger” musician was taken into custody in Los Angeles, with a spokesperson for the LAPD telling Daily News that he had been charged with intimate partner violence.
In a statement given to People, Madden, 41, said: “I have some things that I need to deal with and address right now and so I have decided to take a leave of absence from Maroon 5 for the foreseeable future.
“During this time, I do not want to be a distraction to my bandmates. I wish them the absolute best.”
The bass guitarist is expected to appear in court on 29 September, where he could face up to six years in prison if found guilty.
Speaking about the arrest in June, a representative for Madden said: “We are deeply devastated by this disappointing news. As we learn more, we are looking at this very seriously.
“For now, we are allowing all of the individuals involved the space to work things through.”
Madden’s statement comes as Maroon 5 announced rescheduled tour dates for their previously cancelled 2020 shows.
Madden had performed with the band since 1994, when they initially performed under the name “Kara’s Flowers”.
