Brutalism gets burnished at The Manner, a 97-room hotel in Manhattan’s SoHo neighborhood from Standard International. Verena Haller, chief design officer for the company, tapped ELLE DECOR A-List designer and architect Hannes Peer for the project, his first hotel.

“I knew we needed to enter the luxury market in a different way,” says Haller, who, like Peer, hails from the Dolomites region of Italy. “I was lucky enough to have met Hannes years before and was drawn to his unique approach to design. When the time came, I knew he was the one to join us on this journey.”

Peer’s signature bold strokes bring a high-shine gravitas to the interiors of the property and its dining concepts—seafood restaurant The Otter, and Sloane’s, a cocktail bar. A sumptuous palette of jewel tones frames a curated selection of work from artists like Elvira Solana, Ben Medansky, and Alex Proba.

“I wanted to create spaces that evoked a sense of home,” says Peer. “[Yet] the project is deeply rooted in a nuanced understanding of New York’s social, historical, and architectural layers. My goal was to translate that complexity into a property that feels connected to its surroundings and expansive in its possibilities.”
