into 500 meters of white sand
in an effort to “beautify”
the heavily-polluted waterfront
Local fishing groups say it's just for show
and they want the Philippine authorities
to focus on rehabilitating the bay
SOUNDBITE: Isko Moreno, Mayor of Manila, saying:
"While it is true and we agree that some of it is superficial and for aesthetic reasons, the major issue here, and that's why we're all here, is to clean up Manila Bay."
