After "Mandalorian", Taika Waititi is circling a "Star Wars" movie next

17 Jan – Disney+ series "The Mandalorian" seems to be a good steppingstone for directors to launch their "Star Wars" career. The latest news reveal that Taika Waititi might graduate to an even bigger project following his involvement in the series.
The "Thor: Ragnarok" director has been approached to develop a "Star Wars" movie, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
However, it is not yet known whether it is the same project as the one Kevin Feige is working on or it will be a completely different project.
With Disney focusing their "Star Wars" efforts more on streaming service Disney+, not much is known about the franchise's upcoming big screen projects.
If Waititi takes it on, his – and possibly Feige's – will be the only one in development since "Game of Thrones" creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have exited their planned trilogy and Rian Johnson also put his trilogy on hold to focus on making the sequel to his highly successful Daniel Craig-starring "Knives Out".

Apart from Waititi, fellow "Mandalorian" director Deborah Chow, after making history as the first female director for a "Star Wars" project, is also working on a new series starring Ewan McGregor as Jedi master Obi-Wan Kenobi.
Taking on a "Star Wars" movie might mean Waititi will need to move his schedule around again. He already has to put his "Akira" adaptation on hold as he has to focus on "Thor: Love and Thunder", which he will be helming and acting in, and he is also making an appearance in another 2021 movie, James Gunn's "The Suicide Squad".
He can currently be seen starring as a comical version of Adolf Hitler in "Jojo Rabbit", the movie which he also wrote and directed that has been nominated in six categories at this year's Oscars.
