Manatee Swims Close Behind Alligator in Florida State Park

In an unexpected encounter, a manatee was spotted swimming closely behind an alligator at the Myakka River State Park in Sarasota, Florida, video uploaded on July 30 shows.

Footage recorded by Dennis Osha shows the manatee tailing just behind a large gator.

Osha told WFLA News, “At first I was just filming the large gator since it was swimming by directly below me when the manatee popped in.”

It seems the manatee had little to worry about: according to the Fish and Wildlife Service, “Reported instances of sharks and alligators feeding on manatees are extremely rare.” Credit: Dennis Osha via Storyful
