Man Utd turn to new ‘top target’ with Premier League rivals ‘expecting’ to complete £30m transfer
According to reports, West Ham United are ‘hopeful’ that they will sign Manchester United defender Harry Maguire before the transfer window closes.
The Red Devils have been in the market for a new centre-back throughout this summer but it’s been made clear that they will only sign one if Maguire moves elsewhere.
The England international has been linked with Aston Villa, Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur this summer but West Ham are leading the race to sign him from Man Utd.
The Hammers agreed a £30m deal with their Premier League rivals earlier this summer but this transfer broke down a few days later as discussions between the two teams stalled.
West Ham have done some great business in recent weeks as £115m has been spent to sign Edson Alvarez, James Ward-Prowse, Mohammed Kudus and centre-back Konstantinos Mavropanos.
Despite the arrival of Movropanos, Football Insider are reporting that ‘West Ham now expect to sign Maguire’ after ‘new talks’ with Man Utd. The report adds.
‘West Ham are hopeful of landing long-term target Harry Maguire in the last week of the transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.
‘The Irons have reignited talks over a deal for Maguire, 30, after a potential deal collapsed earlier this month.
‘They remain keen on the player despite already moving for Stuttgart centre-back Konstantinos Mavropanos last week.
‘West Ham were close to landing the England international for a fee of around £30million before he decided to remain a Man United player.
‘It is believed an exit for the England star could hold the key to Man United making more signings in the remainder of the transfer window, which shuts on Friday (1 September).’

Another report from Football Insider claims ‘Nice defender Jean-Clair Todibo is the top target for Man United in the final days of the window’. They later state.
‘It is believed any funds generated by selling the England international will be used to fund a move for Todibo.
‘Erik ten Hag is desperate for centre-back reinforcements – even more so following Raphael Varane’s injury against Nottingham Forest on Saturday (26 August).
‘Maguire’s reluctance to leave the club has already cost the Red Devils their first-choice defender target.
‘Football Insider revealed on Monday (28 August) that Ten Hag missed out on top defensive target Benjamin Pavard after the Englishman’s West Ham move fell through.’
Pavard is set to join Serie A giants Inter Milan but Todibo remains on the market despite his excellent recent form for Nice. Man Utd and Newcastle United have both been linked with the 23-year-old this summer.
