Manchester United and Tottenham learn the fate of their potential transfers for Milan Skriniar, with the defender tipped for a big decision on his future.

Links to a move away from Inter have come more and more frequently of late. Indeed, a number of clubs are now in the mix for his signature.

Paris Saint-Germain reportedly made a bid for him in the summer. However, nothing came of it, and he remained an Inter player.

There is also long-standing interest from Tottenham and Man Utd, both stemming from way before the recent transfer window.

It seems that both of those sides are still keen. Links have remained to both sides, with Skriniar’s future up in the air, given his contract is up at the end of the season.

Beyond that, the reasons for interest in the Slovakian international are clear. He has been one of the most dominant defenders in Europe for years.

In his time at Inter, Skriniar has racked up 234 appearances. He is one of the club’s most influential assets, having hardly missed a game for the past five seasons.

That was the case in the title-winning campaign of 2020/21. Skriniar played 32 Serie A games, and was part of a defence that kept 13 clean sheets.

Skriniar set for big decision

Interest has remained in the centre-back for much of his time at Inter, no doubt helped by that season. It has hotted up, with his contract drawing to a close.

Indeed, along with those who have been keen for some time, multiple sides have thrown their hat in the ring to be Skriniar’s next destination of late.

However, it could be that each of the interested sides are disappointed.

Indeed, a report from Foot Mercato suggests the centre-back will pen a new deal with Inter, rather than move elsewhere. The report states Skriniar will sign a new four-year deal.

It will be a lucrative one, too, reported to be more than double what he makes now, making him the second-highest paid player at the club.

The reasons for him staying are that his wife apparently ‘does not want’ to leave Milan.

Indeed, if that is the case, it is unlikely that the defender will change his mind on the matter. Of course, that will be disappointing for any side that was interested in him.

Skriniar himself also apparently ‘feels good’ in Milan. Given he has spent nearly six years there, that is little surprise.

The chances of him moving on look very slim now. Spurs and United will likely have to look elsewhere for a player to add to their back lines.
