Man Utd told ‘only doubt’ that remains in beating Newcastle, Tottenham to James Maddison signing
Former Manchester United striker Louis Saha only has one doubt over whether a move for Leicester playmaker James Maddison is a good one for his old club.
The England star will be entering the final year of his Foxes contract this summer, but with Leicester currently embroiled in a relegation battle there is a strong chance he will be moving on come the end of the season.
The 26-year-old has been one of the bright spots in an otherwise disastrous campaign for the former Premier League champions, with a number of top-flight clubs showing an interest in his services.
Newcastle are known to have shown concrete interest in Maddison in the last two transfer windows and are expected to be very active in the summer if, as expected, they qualify for the Champions League.
Tottenham, meanwhile, are also known admirers but are a shambles behind the scenes at the moment and still need to appoint a new permanent manager.
Recent reports suggest Maddison could cost anything between £46million to £60m for their prized asset.
It’s also claimed that Maddison is a boyhood Red Devils fan and would jump at the chance of a swith to Old Trafford.
However, Saha is not convinced that the Leicester man would be able to oust Bruno Fernandes from his favoured No.10 role under Erik ten Hag.
Maddison not a guaranteed start for United
And, while the Frenchman is sure that Maddison would be a hit at United, he fears for his game time if he does make that move.
Saha told Betfred: “I have a lot of respect for James Maddison and it’s a shame to see him playing in this current Leicester City side that have really struggled this season.
“As a Manchester United fan, I want the club to have players that have full confidence in themselves and I believe James is a player that could have an impact at the club.
“He’s a top player but I’m not sure he’s a player that will play for Manchester United week in, week out. That’s the only question mark around this move.”
It could also be argued that signing Maddison is not exactly a ‘need’ for Ten Hag this summer, with a new central attacker the most obvious one.
Tottenham frontman Harry Kane continues to be linked with United, as he has been for a number of years.
Napoli’s Victor Osimhen and Frankfurt star Randal Kolo Muani are also thought to be options under consideration, while Ten Hag could also move for another central midfielder if Marcel Sabitzer fails to make his temporary switch from Bayern Munich into a permanent one.
United are back in action on Thursday evening when they head to Brighton in the Premier League.
