Man Utd tipped to ‘finalise’ key transfer ‘within hours’ as Tottenham outcast becomes ‘serious option’
According to reports, Manchester United are edging closer to signing £60m flop Marc Cucurella from Premier League rivals Chelsea.
The Red Devils have entered the market for a new left-back after it was confirmed earlier this month that England international Luke Shaw is set to be out of action for a few weeks due to injury.
United are only interested in a loan deal as it is likely that Shaw will still be Erik ten Hag’s first-choice left-back when he returns from injury.
Chelsea defender Cucurella has emerged as a viable option in recent days. The former Brighton man was signed for around £60m by the Blues last summer and he struggled during his debut season at Stamford Bridge.
Cucurella previously shone at Brighton and a move to Man Utd would afford him the opportunity to rebuild his reputation.
It was claimed earlier this week that the 25-year-old has reportedly ‘green-lighted’ a move to Man Utd and Caught Offside are now reporting that ‘United are taking positive steps in their bid to complete the transfer of Chelsea left-back Cucurella on loan’. The report adds.
‘The Red Devils have agreed terms with the Spanish defender, who has given the green light to leaving Stamford Bridge for Old Trafford for the 2023/24 season.
‘Talks are now advancing between Man Utd and Chelsea, with sources with a close understanding of the situation informing CaughtOffside that it could be finalised within hours.
‘Cucurella looks like a solid signing to provide cover for the injured Luke Shaw, and generally providing an alternative to the England international for the campaign ahead.
‘CaughtOffside understands that United manager Erik ten Hag also considered other options in Marcos Alonso and Nicolas Tagliafico, but was left unconvinced by both players.’

But The Athletic are reporting that Man Utd are ‘seriously considering’ Tottenham Hotspur outcast Sergio Reguilon, who is now a ‘live option’.
The report claims Man Utd have ‘submitted a proposal’ to sign Cucurella but their pursuit of him has been complicated by him featuring in Chelsea’s Carabao Cup second-round win over AFC Wimbledon on Wednesday night.
‘A deal for Cucurella remains in play’ but they are ‘actively exploring a move for Reguilon’ and their ‘ultimate decision will be based on footballing and financial reasons amid their ongoing pursuit of Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat’.
Regarding the Morocco international, the report from Caught Offside added.
‘United are also hopeful of reaching an agreement to sign Sofyan Amrabat on loan.
‘The challenge is making the deal work with Financial Fair Play, but the Morocco international is keen on the move and CaughtOffside understands Fiorentina are also working on finding a replacement for him before tomorrow’s deadline.’
