According to reports, Man Utd, Newcastle and Tottenham are all ‘interested’ in Leicester City star James Maddison, who is ‘set to be sold’ this summer.

The Englishman has emerged as one of the standout attacking midfielders in the Premier League. Over the past year, it has felt like only a matter of time before he leaves Leicester City.

The 26-year-old helped them finish in the top half for five straight seasons between 2017 and 2022 but they are currently involved in a battle to avoid relegation.

Leicester will move out of the bottom three if they pick up any points at home against Everton on Monday night.

They would be in even more trouble had it not been for Maddison’s superb form. He has grabbed nine goals and seven assists in 25 Premier League outings this term.

It will be a great way for Maddison to leave Leicester if he can help to keep them up this season. His contract is up in 2024 so this summer will likely be the club’s last chance to sell the midfielder for a large fee.

The Telegraph are reporting that ‘Maddison is set to be sold regardless of the outcome of Leicester’s survival mission’.

The report claims Man Utd, Newcastle United and Spurs are ‘all interested’ in the England international. They add.

‘Leicester revealed record losses of £92.5 million in their financial accounts earlier this year and will return to the club’s model of selling a key asset this summer to balance the books.

‘Maddison is Leicester’s best player and will be available for a fee understood to be between £45 million and £60 million, with just over a year left on his current contract.’

Ex-Aston Villa boss Dean Smith has been tasked with trying to keep Leicester in the Premier League.

The 52-year-old previously worked with Jack Grealish during their time together at Villa Park and he thinks Maddison is similar to the Man City star.

“I think they are different types of players but they both know they’ve got ability and want to push themselves to become the best,” Smith said.

“I think when you’ve got players that have that personality and character they push you as coaches and you want to go and help them become better players. James seems to have that as well.

“He’s always looking to see what he can do better. He’s really engaging in the meetings we have and tactical meetings, and very vocal as well. I can see that similarity (with Grealish) of wanting to push himself.

“I’m liking what I’m seeing in training so far and he’s not disappointed in the games either. All the players are really focused and James is certainly one of them.”
