Manchester United are reportedly expected to complete the loan signing of Tottenham left-back Sergio Reguilon after Chelsea ‘complicated’ their pursuit of Marc Cucurella.

Erik ten Hag is eager to sign a left-back on loan with Luke Shaw and back-up Tyrell Malacia both injured.

Chelsea’s £60million flop Cucurella emerged as a surprise target for the Red Devils, with several other left-backs being linked with the Premier League giants.

Ashley Young, Leonardo Spinnazola, Ryan Bertrand, Cucurella and Reguilon are among those to be linked with Ten Hag’s side and it looks like the Spurs man will be the player to join on a temporary basis.

On Thursday morning, The Athletic reported that United are ‘seriously considering’ Reguilon after ‘submitting a proposal’ to bring in Cucurella.

And the same outlet have once again reported on the Red Devils’ interest in the former.

OPINION: Marc Cucurella left-field loan deal is a win-win for Manchester United and Chelsea…

According to transfer expert David Ornstein, United are ‘working to complete a deal’ to sign Reguilon on loan.

Tottenham have ‘granted permission’ for the Spanish defender to travel to Manchester to complete a medical.

It is noted that Cucurella was Ten Hag’s ‘priority target’, however, his appearance for Chelsea in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday ‘complicated matters’.

Cucurella will be cup-tied in that competition if he joins the Blues’ rivals and it’s added that ‘if United had wanted the option of sending him back to Chelsea in January, he would no longer have been eligible to exit and appear for a third club this season’.

The report adds that United are also hoping to complete the signing of Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat.

Reguilon is surplus to requirements at Spurs with new head coach Ange Postecoglou keen to move him on before Friday’s transfer deadline.

The 26-year-old started his Spurs career fairly strongly but he fell down the pecking order and spent last season on loan at Atletico Madrid.

He only made 12 appearances across all competitions for Atletico and returned to north London further down the pecking order with Destiny Udogie now Postecoglou’s first-choice left-back.
