Man Utd misery as small summer budget revealed, after Ten Hag voices major funding concerns
Manchester United will reportedly have a budget of just £100m this summer, regardless of who takes control of the club.
This will come as a blow to Erik ten Hag, who has publicly admitted that heavy investment in his squad is required if they want to consistently challenge for trophies.
The Premier League giants are currently in the midst of a takeover. Sheikh Jassim and Sir Jim Ratcliffe are the two primary contenders to take control of the club.
Sheikh Jassim recently promised to bring in the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Edouardo Camavinga and Kingsley Coman if his takeover bid is successful.
However, according to a report from the Athletic, Man Utd will not be able to spend much more than £100m this summer. They add that this figure will not change regardless of who takes control.
This is allegedly due to the Premier League’s Financial Fair Play regulations. The Red Devils have spent heavily over the last two campaigns, and are not allowed to lose more than £105m in a three-year period.
Now, As per the Athletic’s report, they will not be able to spend over £100m this summer, unless they sell several players.

Ten Hag: ‘We need funds to sign top players’
It’s no secret that Ten Hag is looking to bolster his squad ahead of next season, with a new centre-forward thought to be his priority.
Marcus Rashford has been in tremendous form this term, scoring 29 goals across all competitions. However, he could certainly do with some attacking support.
With that in mind, Man Utd have been looking into signing several big-name strikers. Harry Kane, Victor Osimhen and Tammy Abraham are all on their radar, for example.
But, the recent links to Mbappe will have no doubt got the Old Trafford very excited. Nevertheless, Sheikh Jassim’s promises mean nothing if they are limited to spending just £100m this summer.
Ten Hag has been very open about Man Utd’s need for investment in the squad, too.
In a recent interview, he said: “Manchester United are one of the biggest clubs in the world.
“But, funds are needed to complete for biggest trophies, everyone knows that it takes funds to sign top players.
“We have to strengthen the squad during transfer windows.”
For now, Ten Hag’s focus will be on getting Man Utd into the Champions League. They currently sit in fourth place in the table – four points clear of bitter rivals Liverpool, in fifth.
However, the reports regarding Man Utd’s budget are definitely concerning. If true, the Dutch manager may struggle to improve his squad significantly ahead of next season.
