Manchester United will reportedly have to pay at least £90m to sign Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, who has been on their radar for a long time.

Erik ten Hag will need to land a centre-forward for next season after Wout Weghorst was brought in on loan as a stop-gap solution to the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo. Osimhen is one of the most in-demand forwards in the world at the moment, something which has undoubtedly driven up his price tag.

According to ESPNthe Nigerian goal machine will cost a minimum of £90m next summer, but with several top clubs circling, his fee may ultimately end up being higher than that.

Paris Saint Germain have also registered an interest in Osimhen, along with Chelsea, so the Red Devils may have a bidding war on their hands.

Osimhen has been in simply incredible form for Napoli this season.

In Serie A, the 24-year-old has scored a staggering 14 goals in 16 appearances this season, along with making four assists, giving him an outstanding average of 1.13 goal contributions per game.

He has been key to the Italian giant’s recent success, with Napoli currently 13 points clear at the top of the table after 20 matches so far.

Osimhen could finally replace Ronaldo at United

As mentioned, in January, Ten Hag brought in Weghorst on loan from Burnley as a short-term solution after Ronaldo left United by mutual consent in November.

The Portuguese icon scored 18 goals in the Premier League for the Red Devils last season, so there is clearly a goalscoring void in their squad at the moment.

Marcus Rashford has massively stepped up to the challenge this season, netting nine goals in the league so far. But, Ten Hag is clearly keen to add another quality attacker to his ranks.

Osimhen certainly fits that description. Since joining Napoli in 2020, the Nigeria international has scored 43 goals in 82 appearances, along with making 13 assists.

Despite still being a relatively young player, he has picked up plenty of accolades in his career already.

Osimhen won the FIFA under-17s World Cup with Nigeria in 2015, got the Lille Player of the Season award for his contributions in the 2019-20 season and won the Serie A Best Young Player Award in 2021-22.

Also, if all goes as expected, he looks set to help Napoli to their first league title since 1990 – a monumental achievement.

With all that in mind, Osimhen arguably has the quality to turn United into serial title contenders once again. They last won the Premier League in 2013.

But, Ten Hag and co will have to put their money where their mouth is – as Napoli are unlikely to budge from their £90m valuation.
