Premier League side Man Utd are getting closer to tying up a deal for former Lazio goalkeeper Thomas Strakosha, according to reports.

The Albania international left the Serie A club at the end of his contract last month and has been in negotiations with others teams ever since.

Strakosha played 208 times over seven seasons at Lazio with the goalkeeper starting 31 matches in all competitions last season as they finished fifth in Serie A.

Man Utd fans to blame? Pull the other one…they’ve been ‘patient’ with Maguire and Pogba

And now talkSPORT claims that Man Utd ‘are closing in on a deal’ after fellow Premier League side Fulham ‘were keen and enquired but they’re due to sign Bernd Leno from Arsenal instead’.

The report added:

‘United spoke to Thomas Strakosha’s representatives after allowing David De Gea’s back up Dean Henderson to join Nottingham Forest on a season-loan.

‘Forest, Leicester and Chelsea had also been linked with Strakosha after his Lazio contract ended.’

Meanwhile, former Premier League striker Noel Whelan reckons Man Utd left-back Alex Telles will leave the club this summer after the arrival of Tyrell Malacia from Feyenoord earlier this week.

Whelan told Football Insider: “Alex Telles hasn’t done it since coming in, has he? I’m fully expecting Malacia to start the season – that’s what Ten Hag has brought him in for.

“That’s what happens when you go out and get new players in – they come straight into the side.

“I’m sure not many people will be grumbling if he does because last season there were so many poor performances in these areas and that’s why there is this lack of trust in the existing players.

“In terms of where that leaves Telles – if they can ship him out on loan with a view to a permanent move, that’d probably be best for player and club.”

On joining Man Utd, Malacia said: It’s an incredible feeling to have joined Manchester United. This is a new chapter for me, a new league with new team-mates and a tremendous manager [Erik ten Hag] leading us.

“I know from playing against his teams in the Eredivisie, the qualities that he has and what he demands of his players.”
