Chelsea are reportedly attempting to hijack Man Utd and Arsenal’s attempts to sign Joao Felix on loan from Atletico Madrid this month.

Over the past year, Chelsea have loved a transfer hijack and this is perhaps the least surprising one of all.

Felix is available for a transfer as he has fallen out of favour at Atletico Madrid with him butting heads with Diego Simeone.

The Spanish side have endured a torrid season as they have exited the Champions League and they are fifth in La Liga.

Atletico Madrid are looking to recoup most of the money they invested to sign Felix in 2019. It cost them around £113m to bring him in from Benfica.

Earlier this month, it was claimed that Atletico are demanding around £9.5m as a loan fee. They also want Felix’s next club to commit to signing him in the summer for a fee in the region of £70.5m.

This is making a deal difficult with Arsenal and Man Utd previously understood to be the clubs leading the race to sign him.

The Gunners want to bolster their attack to help with their Premier League title pursuit, while United are looking to strengthen following Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure.

The two Premier League clubs have reportedly made it clear that they want Atletico Madrid to reduce their demands before they make a move.

This has left the door open for Chelsea to move to sign Felix, and they are doing just that, according to The Daily Record.

Graham Potter’s side have ‘offered to sign’ the Portugal international. They are even said to be ‘ready to pay £9,7m to cover the loan which ‘meets the conditions set last month by Atletico chief executive Miguel Angel Gil Marin’.

The report adds that ‘Chelsea are also working to include an option to buy’ the attacker on a permanent deal in the summer.

Chelsea appear to be the new frontrunners to sign him as Felix has ‘made his choice clear’. He ‘is keen to join the London club and has already told team-mates that he is moving to England’.

Atletico Madrid are waiting for the best deal possible though as they are ‘exploring alternative options’.

They note the ongoing interest from Man Utd and Arsenal, but they have ‘yet to meet the financial terms sought by the Spanish club’.

The Blues spent over £200m on signings in the summer and they are not messing around this month either.

They have already spent around £54m this month to bring in Benoit Badiashile, Andrey Santos and David Datro Fofana.

The Daily Record goes onto confirm that Chelsea are ‘in competition’ with Arsenal to sign Shakhtar Donetsk winger Mykhaylo Mudryk.

Reports of Felix joining Chelsea were later backed up by The Athletic’s David Ornstein.

He has revealed that the Blues have ‘reached a verbal agreement’ to sign the attacker.

‘A deal is not signing’ but the player is ‘set to opt for Chelsea’.

Ornstein adds that Chelsea are ‘planning more reinforcements this month’ and one of their main aims is to ‘revitalise their attack’.
