BUKIT MERTAJAM, March 4 (Bernama) -- Police have arrested a man to assist in investigations into the death of a vehicle spare parts shop owner, who was stabbed and knocked down by an assailant using the victim’s own car in Taman Impian Ria, Machang Bubok here on Monday.
Penang Criminal Investigation Department chief Datuk Zainol Samah said the suspect, in his 40s, was arrested at about 1.30 pm yesterday in the Bukit Mertajam area in the victim’s Ford Ranger.
“We managed to arrest him and found that he knew the victim and the motive is believed to be unpaid debts. The suspect is a businessman and has been remanded for a week,” he said when contacted by Bernama today.
In the 9.45 pm incident on Monday, Leow Choong Leong, 41, was found lying in a pool of blood in front of a convenience store in the housing estate after the incident.
Police initially received a report about a man who was killed in an accident, but further investigations revealed several stab wounds on his body.
A closed-circuit camera recording in the area revealed that the victim was attacked by a man before before being knocked down with his own car.
