Man goes viral for hogging LRT seat, eating and drinking on the train; RapidKL says he has been advised not to repeat behaviour

Photos also surfaced online showing the man enjoying a full meal on the LRT, while placing his food on the vacant seats akin to a table.

KUALA LUMPUR — An unidentified RapidKL LRT commuter was filmed displaying inconsiderate behaviour towards other commuters, such as hogging seats on the train during peak hour travel, refusing to remove his bag that he placed on an empty seat, as well as eating and drinking onboard. But, according to images provided by other internet users, it wasn't the first time he was seen engaging in such behaviour.

The first of multiple instances appeared in a viral post on X/Twitter, where a user shared their frustration, saying that a fellow commuter had asked the man to remove his bag which he had on the seat next to him. According to the user, the man "made a face and refused".

The post quickly gained traction, with many social media users condemning the man's actions.

What seemed like a regular complaint post quickly turned into a long thread, with other users sharing their experiences with the same person.

More photos surfaced from various users, who alleged that they had encountered the man displaying inconsiderate actions, months before it was highlighted in this viral post.

One X/Twitter user, @riznal, claimed that the man often gets down at the Setiawangsa LRT station, which is on the Kelana Jaya line, and is known for being oblivious to others' needs in the train, even when the coaches are crowded.

He sometimes has a full meal on the train

The passenger, described as a middle-aged man, has been accused of repeatedly exhibiting inconsiderate behaviour towards fellow commuters.

Photos also surfaced online showing the man enjoying a full meal on the LRT, while placing his food on the vacant seats akin to a table. This was despite there being signs on the trains stating that the consumption of food and beverage onboard was not allowed.

This further fuelled public outrage, with netizens tagging RapidKL in their posts demanding action.

RapidKL responds

RapidKL took to X/Twitter to issue a general reminder to passengers to be mindful of others while using public transport, seemingly in response to the social media storm that took place over the weekend.

"We have taken notice of some passengers' behaviour that do not adhere to public transport etiquette, including eating and drinking, as well as monopolising seats when commuting inside the train."

When contacted, RapidKL also confirmed to Yahoo Southeast Asia that their security team had met with the man, and he was advised to not repeat his behaviours.
