SINGAPORE — A man who had been cheated into paying for sexual services that were not delivered was inspired to cheat other men in the same way.

The 20-year-old created false profiles of a girl on various websites to ensnare men looking for sexual services. After the men paid him, he would block them on the application.

The man cannot be named as he was under 18 at the time of the offences, which were committed from 2018 to this year.

He pleaded guilty to three out of six counts of cheating on Wednesday (8 December) and was ordered to be assessed for a probation suitability report. The remaining charges will be considered for his sentencing.

In total, he duped six men of $1,190. Three of them listed in the proceeded charges were in their 20s and 30s.

From 2018, the man would carry out his scam about once or twice a month, but increased his frequency to two to three times a month from 2019 to 2021.

To carry out his scheme, the man created false profiles on online applications Locanto and Kik, using four different fake female names on each application to avoid detection.

He placed descriptions such as “Sexual services” or “Female Chinese sg student looking for guys to have fun” on his profile and used pictures of females that he had obtained from Google or Instagram.

When a "customer" messaged him, he would tell them rates varying from $100 to $400. After the customers transferred money, the man would block or ignore them.

The man spent his ill-gotten gains on food, transport and a pair of Adidas Yeezy Boost 350 V2 shoes.

He was traced through his account details, and his account was frozen on 7 April this year. Upon realising that his account was frozen, the man asked a friend to lend him his account to use for more scams.

He was arrested on 22 April this year and his Adidas Yeezy Boost 350 V2 shoes were seized.

The man will return to court on 19 January for his sentencing.
