Man dies after fight breaks out along Orchard Road, 14 people arrested

The Singapore Police Force said the 29-year-old man was found unconscious at the scene with multiple injuries, and later died in hospital.

SINGAPORE — A 29-year-old man has died following a fight that occurred early Sunday morning (20 August) along Orchard Road.

The Singapore Police Force said it was alerted to the incident at 100 Orchard Road, which is the address of the Concorde Hotel and Shopping Mall, at around 6am.

Fourteen individuals, aged 22 to 32, were arrested on suspicion of engaging in a riot with weapons in connection to the fight, 11 of whom were nabbed within five hours of the report.

According to the police, several weapons were seized, including two pen knives and a bread knife, which are believed to have been involved in the incident.

The police also said that all individuals involved were acquainted with one another, and the altercation had allegedly arisen from a dispute.

Two men found along Orchard Road with multiple injuries

The police arrived at the scene and discovered two men, aged 23 and 29, who had sustained multiple injuries.

The 29-year-old man was found unconscious and taken to a hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Meanwhile, the 23-year-old man was conscious while he was transported to the hospital.

Two other men, aged 28 and 32, were arrested directly at the scene.

Later in the day, at approximately 9.30am, three men and a woman were arrested at a multi-storey car park along Fernvale Road in Sengkang.

Five more men were apprehended at Woodlands Checkpoint an hour later, the police said.

Man arrested when seeking treatment at hospital

At approximately 4.45pm that same day, a 27-year-old man was arrested when he sought medical treatment at a hospital. Later that evening, a 24-year-old man was also arrested at a hospital.

On Monday, a 30-year-old man turned himself in to the police and was taken into custody.

Three of the men were charged on Monday with rioting while armed with a deadly weapon. If convicted, they could face a sentence of up to 10 years in prison and caning.

Police investigations into the incident are still ongoing.
