Man clings to tree in Australia after record rainfall

The man clung to a tree for several hours after his car was swept off a causeway in the town, the St John Ambulance said.

Emergency services used ropes to secure the man before he was rescued from the floodwater.

More than 100 mm of rainfall was recorded overnight, making it the wettest 24-hour period since January 2001, according to the country's Bureau of Meteorology.

The rainfall has also already exceeded the regional record for the wettest November ever.
