Man City eye stunning move for Bayern Munich stalwart; Guardiola ‘won’t hesitate’ to seal huge deal
Manchester City are considering a summer move for highly-rated Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich, according to reports.
Pep Guardiola is looking to bring in at least one new midfielder ahead of next season. Now, the manager has the German international on his transfer shortlist.
Bayern won’t let Kimmich go easily, but there are rumours that Kimmich is looking to leave the German giants at the end of the season.
Man City are hurtling towards their third consecutive Premier League title. They are also the favourites to win the Champions League, as they look to confirm their status as the best team in Europe.
However, Guardiola is keen to add further quality to his squad this summer. One of the areas the manager wants to improve is his midfield.
Indeed, with Ilkay Gundogan expected to leave the Cityzens on a free transfer, his departure will leave a void in the squad. As a result, Jude Bellingham and Declan Rice have been linked with big-money moves to the Etihad.
But, it now seems Guardiola has switched his attention to Kimmich, who has been a monumental player for Bayern over the years.
Guardiola ‘won’t hesitate’ to sign Kimmich
This is according to Mundo Deportivo (via Sport Witness), who claim both Man City and Barcelona want to sign Kimmich this summer.
They add that Guardiola ‘won’t hesitate’ to sign the midfielder should the opportunity present itself, especially if Gundogan leaves.
Since joining Bayern back in 2015, Kimmich has made 345 appearances, scoring 40 goals and making 95 assists. In the process, he has won seven Bundesliga titles – one of which he won playing under Guardiola during the manager’s time at the club.
Also, he won the Champions League in 2020, so there is no doubting his ability to play at the highest level.
Kimmich is versatile, too, with the ability to play as a defensive midfielder, or as a right-back or centre-back. So, he could provide cover in several positions for Man City next season.
Mundo Deportivo’s report doesn’t state how much Bayern would demand for his signature. However, Transfermarkt value the German at approximately £80m, so he definitely wouldn’t be cheap.
For now, Man City’s focus is on winning the Premier League title and the Champions League. But, it’s clear Guardiola has one eye on the future, and bringing in Kimmich would be a sensational move.
