Man City chief hits out at Arsenal, Chelsea and Man Utd – ‘other clubs invest more money than us!’
Man City CEO Ferran Soriano has hit out at Arsenal, Chelsea and Man Utd after the Premier League champions were charged for breaking financial rules.
Back in February, it was confirmed that Man City have been charged by Premier League for ‘more than 100’ breaches of financial rules.
This follows a four-year probe into the club’s conduct between the 2009/10 and 2017/18 seasons.
Man City could receive a point deduction or even expulsion from the Premier League if they are found guilty.
This is expected to be a long process and nothing of note has been reported in relation to the ongoing case over the past couple of months.
In the meantime, Man City are on track to win the treble as they are battling for the Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup.
Pep Guardiola’s side hammered Real Madrid 4-0 in the second leg of their Champions League tie on Wednesday night to run out 5-1 winners on aggregate.
Speaking post-match, Soriano leapt to the defence of Man City and he boldly argued that three of their rivals are “investing more money” on players.
“Look, you only have to look at the investment in players in England in the last year, three years, five years… we are never the club spending the most on players,” Soriano told Movistar.
“There are many other clubs investing more money than us – Chelsea, Manchester United, Arsenal.
“Saying that we’ve spent a lot of money and we won because of that is just not true.”
Soriano also thinks it will “be something symbolic” when Man City finally win the Champions League.
“The Champions League is a bit symbolic,” Soriano added. “We work every day for the Premier League, it’s a very difficult tournament to win. If we do it this year, it will be the third in a row, five in six years.
“From my experience, I know that you cannot base all your strategy on winning the Champions League, because it depends on the draw, a bad day… but yes, when we win it, which we will do one day, it will be something symbolic.”

Guardiola explained after City’s huge win over Real Madrid why he is “so proud” of his team.
“We are one game away from winning the Premier League for three years in a row, and we have been in two Champions League finals and one semi-final,” Guardiola said.
“That is consistency. I always put the example of being Carabao Cup winners for four years in a row. That means the level of this team.
“There is one incredible detail in this team that I’m so proud of – they are so humble. It doesn’t matter the competition, they take every game seriously because they are so humble.”
