Man charged with murder of woman in Hougang

SINGAPORE, Dec 12 — A 42-year-old man has been charged with the murder of a 34-year-old woman at a hardware store in Singapore, Channel News Asia (CNA) reported today.

The accused, Du Zaixing, is alleged to have caused the death of Dao Thi Hong at a ground-floor unit of Block 210 on Hougang Street 21 at around 11:05am on Tuesday.

According to CNA, the charge sheets did not specify the cause of Dao’s death.

Du appeared in court via video-link from his place of remand, from which he followed the proceedings through a Mandarin interpreter4.

CNA added that the Chinese national will be remanded for one week with permission to be taken out for investigations.

The police prosecutor told the court that Du’s physical presence was required for scene visits and to recover evidence.

The court granted the application and scheduled the next mention of his case on December 19.

On Tuesday, three people were taken to the hospital, including the victim and a 26-year-old man, who were found with stab wounds. The victim later died in the hospital.

Du was found with injuries sustained in the alleged attack and arrested at the scene.

Murder is a capital offence in Singapore.
