SINGAPORE — A 59-year-old man was charged on Thursday (31 December) with the attempted murder of a 48-year-old woman at a residential unit in Bedok North.

Lim Song Chua, a Singaporean, is accused of trying to kill Heng Hwee Chay by “strangling her neck with both hands and slashing her with a knife” between 10pm on Tuesday to 8am on Wednesday at a ninth-floor unit at Tanamera Crest condominium along Pari Dedap Walk.

Lim was charged from hospital. His injuries are not known.

The case will be mentioned again on 7 January.

In an earlier news release, police said they received a call for help at the unit along Pari Dedap Walk at about 8am on Wednesday.

Officers arrived to find the woman wounded on the floor outside the unit. She was sent conscious to hospital. The man was later arrested inside the unit.

Preliminary investigations showed that the accused and victim are known to each other.

If convicted of attempted murder with hurt, Lim faces life imprisonment or up to 20 years' jail along with a fine.
