Man Arrested on Suspicion of Drug-Driving After Vehicle Driven Into Victoria Business

Police in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, released footage on October 25 of the moment a vehicle drove into a local business. A man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs in connection with the incident.

Police said the incident occurred shortly before 11pm the day before in Victoria’s Bay Centre.

“Officers attended and located a vehicle which had driven into a storefront in The Bay Centre,” police said. "The driver of the vehicle ignored police direction and attempted to flee the scene. Officers deployed a Conducive Energy Weapon (CEW) and withdrew the man from the vehicle, where he continued to resist arrest and was taken to the ground. Officers arrested the man without further incident.

“Based on the man’s behaviour, officers believed that he was impaired by drugs. Officers attempted to administer the Standard Field Sobriety Test (SFST), however the man reported non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to hospital by BC Emergency Health Services Paramedics for medical treatment and for additional investigation. He was later released with a 24-hour driving prohibition pending further investigation into drug-impaired driving. No one else was injured as a result of this incident.” Credit: Victoria Police via Storyful
