KLUANG, May 24 — A 60-year-old man was arrested after he allegedly fired several rounds from his shotgun, damaging his neighbour’s property in Taman Delima here yesterday.

It was learnt that the shooting occurred after a misunderstanding between the two neighbours.

Kluang police chief Assistant Commissioner Bahrin Mohd Noh said the authorities were notified of the incident by the neighbour who lodged a report over the matter.

“The elderly neighbour informed the Kluang district police shortly after he heard a loud explosion behind his house at about 7pm.

“Following that, a team from the district police’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) conducted an inspection at the back of the complainant’s house.

“Checks showed that the house’s water tank and window frames were damaged from what was believed to have been shots from a firearm,” said Bahrin in a statement today.

He said police arrested the senior citizen at 9pm yesterday.

“Investigators also confiscated a shotgun, SME Mega ammunition, a gun licence book, and a receipt for a firearms licence renewal,” he said.

Bahrin said police were still investigating the incident and the suspect’s motive for discharging his shotgun.

“Initial investigations revealed that the suspect has a previous police record related to criminal activity," he added.

The investigation was launched under Section 39 of the Arms Act 1960, which provides for a year’s imprisonment, a fine, or both upon conviction.
