A 31-year-old man was arrested in Janda Baik, Pahang, at 2.30pm on Wednesday (17 Jan) for allegedly selling videos featuring sexual encounters with over 20 women through social media.

The suspect, apprehended by the Anti-Vice, Gambling, and Organized Crime Investigation Division (D7) of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Bukit Aman, was taken into custody in a crackdown on explicit content distribution

Two female accomplices, aged 23 and 27, were also arrested during the operation at a house they shared with the suspect's father.

Director of CID Bukit Aman, Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain, told Berita Harian the arrest followed extensive tracking and investigation into the suspect's self-promotion activities on chat platform Telegram.

The initial investigation unveiled that the suspect, who had been divorced twice, initially began selling and promoting Chinese sexual enhancement drugs on social media platforms since early last year.

Also allegedly filmed himself with female customers

Seeking increased profits, he later started recording explicit videos of himself engaging in rough sexual activities with female companions, and subsequently selling these content on three Telegram channels from July 2023.

"Not only female companions, but the suspect, who is suspected to have a gigolo background, also engaged in sexual activities with some female customers in the said Telegram channels," said Shuhaily.

The suspect's modus operandi allegedly involved enticing customers to subscribe through promotion links on Telegram. According to the police, his subscribers were all Malaysians, and included individuals with professional careers such as doctors, entrepreneurs, and corporate sector workers.

"As of yesterday, the suspect had 2,051 subscribers for a package of 200 videos priced at RM100 and 622 subscribers for a RM20 monthly package with 13 videos," Shuhaily said.

The investigation also found that the women who were willing to engage with the suspect were offered conditions for their intimate relations to be recorded for future sales. Currently, efforts are underway to identify other women involved in the recorded videos, the police said.

The police seized video recordings from five mobile phones, and also seized two ATM cards used for subscription accounts. The suspect and his two female accomplices were remanded for five days by the Sessions Court in Jalan Duta.

Shuhaily said the case was being investigated under Section 372 (1)(e) of the Penal Code for "promoting sexual activities for profit", which carries a maximum penalty of 15 years imprisonment, whipping, and a fine if convicted. Additional charges under Section 292 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 may also apply, he added.

Shuhaily also mentioned that this case was the first kind of its nature in Malaysia, and needed to be addressed to "prevent moral decay in society".
