Man Accused of Killing His Elderly Mother and 2 Sisters on Mother’s Day Is Killed While on the Run

A Tennessee man accused of fatally shooting his mother and two sisters on Mother’s Day was killed by authorities in Arizona while trying to evade law enforcement officials.
Ida Thomas Welch, 76, Vicky Renee Welch, 56, and Crystal Lynn Welch, 42, were found dead in a Ridgeland, Miss., home on Sunday when authorities conducted a welfare check, Ridgeland Police Department announced, according to the Clarion Ledger, WKRG and NBC News.
According to the Clarion Ledger and NBC News, police said the welfare check was requested by family members.
Police determined that Ida’s son Ivory James Welch III was the suspect in the triple murder, per the Clarion Ledger, WKRG and NBC News.
The U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force began searching for him, the outlets reported, citing Ridgeland police.
Ivory allegedly fled to Arizona while on the run, police said, according to the outlets. He was then located by Arizona Department of Public Safety troopers, authorities said, per the Clarion Ledger and NBC News.
"Arizona State Troopers attempted to apprehend Welch and he fired upon the troopers and was fatally wounded in the gunfight." Ridgeland Police Chief Brian Myers said, per WAPT.

Ivory was killed on Monday afternoon, according to authorities, WLBT and WAPT reported.
It wasn't immediately clear if troopers were injured in the gunfire exchange. The Mississippi Bureau of Investigations is collaborating with Ridgeland police for the investigation, WKRG and the Clarion Ledger reported.
