Man, 61, arrested after woman is fatally stabbed in south London

A murder investigation is under way after a woman in her 60s was found stabbed to death at home in south east London.

Police responding to multiple calls from passers-by who saw her being attacked then discovered the victim at a property in Greenland Quay, Surrey Quays near Rotherhithe at 3pm on Friday.

Officers attended with paramedics and London’s Air Ambulance.

The female was taken to hospital where she sadly died, the Metropolitan Police said.

A 61-year-old man arrested on suspicion of murder remains in custody.

Detective Chief Inspector Kate Blackburn, who is leading the investigation, said: “We received multiple calls from members of the public close to the scene with concerns for the victim yesterday afternoon.

“Officers together with the London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance responded quickly but sadly, the woman in her 60s died in hospital yesterday evening.

“Our Specialist Crime Command are continuing enquiries today and at this stage, we believe that this was an isolated incident with the man and woman known to each other.”

A police cordon remained in place at the scene on Saturday evening, and forensic officers were still at the waterfront property.
