Malaysian policeman who died in tragic car crash just became a dad
His car skidded and struck two electric poles in Kelantan, killing him instantly
MALAYSIA — A police officer died on Sunday (5 February) when his car skidded and struck two electric poles near Wakaf King along Jalan Palekbang-Tumpat, which is in Kelantan.
He and his wife had just welcomed the birth of their child three months before this accident.
According to New Straits Times, Inspector Chong Yeong Ren died instantly after suffering head and body injuries in the crash at about 11.30pm.
The outlet reported Kelantan police chief Muhamad Zaki Harun as saying the car skidded and crashed headlong into two lampposts on the left side of the street.
"The victim was believed to have lost control of his car causing it to skid before it rammed into the two poles at the left side of the road. The incident caused the car to overturn," he explained in a statement.
He was supposed to return home after dinner
Chong's wife told Shin Min Daily News that her husband had been eating dinner with friends when he sent a message at 11pm saying he was returning home.
It was over an hour later that the police came to her house to inform her that he had passed away.
According to reports, Mohamad Zaki expressed condolences on behalf of Kelantan police to Mr Chong's family.
Chong first joined the police department on 3 Jun 2019, and was attached to Tumpat district police headquarters for the past four years.
Chong's remains would be sent to his hometown in Klang, Selangor.
