French video game company Ubisoft is featuring a Malaysian hijabi among its characters for its upcoming first-person shooter game Hyper Scape.
Noor Casulink, whose real name is Noor Azimah Yusof, is a 23-year-old in-game champion from Pekan, Pahang, according to the futuristic game’s website. The game will be launched soon but the beta version is already available for download.
The character dubbed the “face of South-East Asia,” was also described as a popular fashionista. Like other playable characters of the game, Noor is dressed in an orange-grey jumpsuit and keeps her hair wrapped in a pink headscarf, styled like a turban.
Hyper Scape is set in the year 2054. Characters are supposed to compete in battle royale style to win fame and fortune. Only one player will come out victorious.
The game’s other international characters include teenager Niro Takeshi from Japan, former athlete Kehinde Adichie from Nigeria, and commercial pilot Josephina De La Cruz from Chile.
Malaysian social media users seem excited about having a fellow citizen as a character in the game. On Monday night, Twitter user @Nosrslystfu uploaded a photo of Noor Azimah’s character and urged more people to hype it up.
“HOLD ON; WHY ARE PEOPLE NOT TALKING ABOUT NOOR AZIMAH BINTI YUSOF?” the caption said.

“Woi, there’s a Malaysian character in Hyper Scape. Noor Azimah binti Yusof from Pekan!!!” social media user @Danisf1kri tweeted yesterday.
@Cappyfish uploaded a video clip of Noor in the gameplay yesterday, in which the character can be heard speaking in Malay when she upgrades her weapon.
I decided to try out the #HyperScape open beta and play as the Malaysian avatar, and she has VOICE LINES IN MALAY! She says "Tak mengapa!" when taking damage and "Naik taraf!" when upgrading gear/hacks.
I wonder if Ubisoft consulted any Malaysians for these voice lines pic.twitter.com/a3i7IyU1Bz
