Malaysian floods displace 20,000 people

Flood victim Sazuatu Remly told Reuters she and her family had only managed to leave with some clothes and important documents, such as birth certificates.

Malaysian authorities said on Monday (December 20) at least eight people were killed in the floods, as heavy rainfall that started Friday (December 17) morning caused dozens of road closures and disrupted shipping.

More than 21,000 people have been displaced from their homes, state news agency Bernama said on Sunday (December 19).
