23 Nov – Malaysian filmmaker Chong Keat Aun has recently won his first ever Golden Horse Awards for his work in "The Story of Southern Islet".
The director, who won Best New Director for his said debut feature film, thanked the people who helped him in producing the film, as well as his parents who inspired the movie.
"When I was writing the script, I was told by a lot of people who were unwilling to finance the film that nobody will understand it. I said one day some will. It turns out that the Golden Horse Awards understood it," he expressed.
The movie revolves around a husband and wife, and how the latter seeks out ways to heal her husband through various different spiritual methods of ethnic groups after her husband experienced strange conditions following a quarrel with a neighbour.
It is noted that prior to his win, Chong's movie won the International Critics Prize (FIPRESCi Prize) at the Golden Horse Awards from The International Federation of Film Critics.
Aside from Chong, another Malaysian local Keon Chia won Best Original Film Song for "Your Name Engraved Herein".
