KUALA LUMPUR, May 23 — The Health Ministry today recorded a new high mark of Covid-19 cases with 6,976 new infections, bringing the total number of cases in Malaysia to 512,091.
Its director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham said Selangor still remains ahead of the other states, with 2,235 cases today, followed by Sarawak with 663 cases and Johor with 549 cases.
The states with the least number of Covid-19 infections today include Perlis with eight cases, Putrajaya Federal Territory with 30 cases and Labuan Federal Territory with 37 cases.
“At present, there are 57,022 active cases, of which 681 are being treated in Intensive Care Units, and 361 requiring breathing assistance,” he said in a statement.
Five of today’s cases involving one Malaysian and four foreign citizens are imported cases, in which the infection occurred abroad. The remaining 6,971 domestic cases involve 6,324 Malaysians and 647 foreign citizens.
The ministry also recorded 3,587 recoveries, bringing the total number of recoveries from Covid-19 in Malaysia to 452,821, or 88.4 per cent of all recorded cases.
