Imagine walking on the beaches of Rio de Janeiro, or surfing the waves in Hawaii. How about sipping coffee in Rome or visiting Angkor Wat in Cambodia – without leaving Malaysia?

If that excites you, then you must visit the Asia Interactive Travel Expo (AITX) from June 7-9 at Setia City Convention Centre, in Selangor.

AITX aims to make travel affordable and enjoyable for all. Unlike other travel expos in the country, AITX promises visitors an immersive experience via its partner, Silversea Media.

Silversea director Mohd Fazlin Shah Mohd Salleh said this would be the company’s first venture in tourism in Malaysia. He said the company, headquartered in Singapore, has worked closely with real estate and property companies to allow clients to view properties, virtually.

“The beauty of our technology is that you do not need special eyewear, or download any mobile application,” said Fazlin.

“You can go to our website to view the different properties. For this event, we have new videos of the various holiday destinations, which visitors can enjoy.”

Those present at yesterday's press conference regarding AITX were treated to the technology when one of Silversea’s staff projected the visuals from her phone onto the big screen.

“This expo will be a game changer for those who love to travel, as they would be able to ‘experience’ their preferred location without leaving the country,” said Datin Ida Seatter, the executive director of Reserve Daily, the expo’s partner.

“We are using virtual and augmented reality to give visitors a different experience when ‘shopping’ for their next holiday destination. Instead of giving out brochures, you are immersed in your chosen location.”

She added the opportunity to ‘visit’ these locations could help holiday-makers make up their minds on which destination to go to.

During the expo, there will be interactive bidding sessions and exclusive sales. AITX is supported by Tourism Malaysia.
